"Millinery" - The traditional millinery
shop was a shop of a thousand things derived from the Latin prefix "mill."
Another possible origin of the word milliner is from "Milaner" meaning
a person from Milan, Italy; or a person who imported goods from Milan.
The earliest documentation we have found of a millinery shop in the
American Colonies is the Margaret Hunter Shop in Colonial Williamsburg
which was established in 1767.
Today The Millinery
continues the tradition of filling a shop with a thousand things. We
cater to specific consumer needs, offering top quality and hard-to-find
sewing supplies and reproduction needle art implements. Michelle Mahoney
Beck, designer and owner of The Millinery, is proud to follow in the
footsteps of craftswomen such as Margaret Hunter (of Colonial Williamsburg) and many other women unknown to history .
Michelle is the one you'll talk to if you call, the one who will pack
your order, look for the items you need, etc., etc.
Our internet site is our
catalog. We do not have a printed version.
